LAKE LANIER IS FULL, MOSTLY CLEAR, SOME POLLEN & MID 70’S

This Lake Lanier Bass report is from Jimbo Mathley. www.jimboonlanier.com 770 542 7764

Spotted bass fishing is very good. The Herring spawn has been our focus out of the gate each day as it offers some great early morning action. A spinnerbait, a wake bait and a swim bait have all been good on the shallow rocky and sandy areas where the herring generally spawn. The floating Spro BBZ1 Swim bait is a great choice as well. Top water like poppers and walkers are starting to work on these fish also. After the sun gets up some, move out a little deeper on those same places with a 1/8 ounce Davis Shaky head and finesse worm combo. Work the bait slowly as the focus is on post spawners, and many of them are still quite lethargic. The slow presentation is key for these fish. Some of the earlier spawners are further along in the post spawn process and becoming more active. These fish can be taken on top water and swim baits. Most of these fish are still fairly shallow. 15 feet seems to be the key depth. Finally, the brush is also holding some post spawn fish as well. Top water works on some days on these fish, as do swim baits, wake baits, and flukes. Lots of choices! I am fully booked for May. Here is what I have open in June right now: 8, 9, 10, 18, 22, 25, 26, 29, 30 June is an incredible month for top water and those days will go fast! Give me a call and get your date booked soon!
This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is very good with large numbers of fish being caught. Last week we caught Stripers of all sizes, Catfish, Spotted Bass and a GAR over 4 foot long. All of the fish were in the same area. Not only are the fish biting but every technique we tried worked. Blueback Herring and Gizzard shad pulled on free lines, down rods, top water baits early in the morning, and Umbrella rigs all produced. Fish un weighted free lines in the morning and add a couple of split shots and move to deeper water as the day progresses. Start with down rods at 20 feet and adjust the depth as you mark fish. Pull the Umbrella rigs at 60 to 80 feet behind the boat and target 30 to 50 foot bottom. We also spent some time pitching Herring to points and reef markers; what a hoot! All you need is 8 to 10 dozen herring, a spinning rod with 12 pound test line and a hook. Pull up to a point cast the herring out and work it back slowly. Change the Herring every third cast. Do not waste your time with a half dead bait! The south end of the lake is heating up and will only get better as the water continues to warm. Fish points and flats half way back in the creeks. Flowery Branch, Bald Ridge Creek, Shoal Creek and Two Mile Creek are all good places to start on the south end. The water temperature is in the high 70’s during the day. The water is stained in the creeks and clear on the main lake. The lake is at full pool.

This Lake Lanier Crappie report is from Dan Saknini, member of the Lanier Crappie Angler’s Club. For more information, see the club’s website at laniercrappieanglers.net

Crappie fishing patterns continue to hold, remaining good to excellent around docks with structure and on submerged brush piles from the middle to the backs of creeks. If you have favorite crappie fishing spots, they should be producing well now. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of fishermen fishing this time of year, so if you don’t catch fish quickly, move on, as that spot may have just been fished. Jig colors still do not matter. For the night fishermen, this is the time of the year to consider fishing under bridges, using Hydra glow lights with crappie minnows. Six Mile Bridge, Wahoo Creek Bridge, and Clarks’ Bridge are our favorites. All 3 are in deep water, within sight of boat ramps, and are holding fish. For those that like bluegill fishing, they are still on bed and biting well. The smaller fish are aggressive, though, and are getting to the bait before the larger fish that are still on bed. Crickets are the best bait for bluegill. Take advantage of the month of May. This is one of our favorite times to fish! Stay safe on the water, wear your lifejacket!

WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & LOW 80’S

Bass fishing is good. With the temperature change this week there has been little change. There are still a few fish left on the bed, but most fish are falling in the post spawn pattern. The spawning fish that are left are primarily north up the river past Ringer access. To catch these fish use Texas rigged soft plastics. The secondary pattern is the shad spawning early in the morning. Look for shad spawning at daybreak before the sun crests the trees. This pattern will not last long, but can produce some really big fish. Use buzz baits in white with a silver blade to mimic spawning shad. The best areas are rocky points and rip rap located near bridges.

LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, CLEAR & UPPER 70’S

This bass fishing report is from Matt Driver 404 456 6094 www.proanglerradio.com

Bass fishing is great with a good largemouth bite this week. For largemouth go shallow and concentrate on cover with a Spro hydro pop and a spinner bait. Spots are still on a shad spawn pattern. Fish near hard bottom or shallow rock with a shallow crank bait like a Spro fat John in nasty shad, and the Spro Dawg top water is working to. The shad spawn bite only last for around 30 minutes first thing in the morning. After the morning bite ends, the “go to” bait is a 1/8 ounce jig head with a 6 inch Easy Money colored squirrel tail worm by Big Bite Baits.

This Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Report has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Guide Service, 770 827 6282. www.firstbiteguideservice.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@att.net

Line side fishing is good. The fish are back out of the rivers and are hungry. Flats and humps seem to be holding most of the fish right early each morning. There is a good bite from one end of the lake to the other. The Delta on the north end as well as gar bay is fishing well. Mid lake the flats at Harbor Town, Galt’s Ferry and the beach at Bartow Carver are also fishing well. The same kind of bite is going on down south in Iron Hill, Tanyard creek and Clark creek. The best bite on the whole lake is the down line bite. Thread fins are working best with small gizzard shad running a close second. Fish these baits between 18 to 24 feet. Our fishing is very consistent. Grab the kids give us a call 770 827 6282 and let’s go fishing.

LAKE HARTWELL IS FULL, CLEAR & UPPER 70’S

Bass are up early and late and a Stanley buzz baits with silver blades and a white skirt up and down lake will work. On river points, use a bright Mann’s Deep crank bait in shad colors down lake on points. The Alabama rig with small Zoom fluke pear trailers is working also. Up the rivers, go to the Bomber 7A in all white or fire tiger on the banks. Small spinner baits with willow leaf blades have been fair early and late. Cast the floating worms half way in the creeks and the off river coves. Zoom u tail worms in gourd green or natural blue on a Texas rig is fair, but fish them very slowly. Night fishing is slow, but a big red worm on a Texas rig can draw a few strikes on bridges and docks around lights.

LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR & UPPER 70’S

Bass fishing is good. Spend the day in Beaver Dam Creek or the area way up the Savannah River. The top water bite is good early in the morning using the Pop R’s and Chug Bugs to catch the bass still in the shallow water. Most of the anglers are going to the plastics early, concentrating on lay down trees and stumps. Be careful not to fish the plastic baits too early. Bass are still being caught on pearl and shad colored Shad Raps and Rapala DT 10 shad crank baits. Use these baits on wind blown points and the rip rap. Carolina rigged green pumpkin lizards are catching nice spotted bass all day. Small chunk rock is the key while fishing the Carolina Rig. Use the Zoom Super Flukes in pearl and baby bass around rock and wood. Start off with the faster moving crank baits in the morning and then move to the slower moving plastics as they day heats up.

CLARKS HILL IS FULL, CLEAR & UPPER 70’s

Bass fishing is great. The pattern of fishing will change all during the day and everything from top water baits like Chug Bugs and Pop R’s to suspending baits like the Ito Vision 110 jerk baits are catching bass. Grass lines are still producing quality bass using the Husky Jerks and plastic worms rigged with no weight. The early morning bite is good until about 9:30 a.m. The winds have been picking up after lunchtime and the DT6’s in the crawdad color is a good bass catching bait to use on wind blown points. Try changing the standard black nickel VMC hooks with the same size red VMC hooks. This little trick of changing the hooks seems to be getting a few extra bites on roaming bass. The lighter ten and twelve pound test line is catching the majority of the fish. The lighter line is allowing the baits to move freely and have better action. Main lake points, grass lines and wood is the key this week to catching a limit of quality bass.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS FULL, CLEAR & LOW 80’S

Bass fishing is good. Most fish on the lake are relating to main lake grass points and grass lines. The grass has yet to top out, but can be found using your electronics. A good place to start looking is from the firebreak down to Ship island which is the little island at the end of Sealy’s flats. There is numerous points and dips in this grass lines and it is capable of holding tons of fish. Shallow cranking and Carolina rigging is the two best techniques for catching fish in these areas. Use the crank bait for locating grass and fish, and then slow down with the Carolina rig once you have located a school of fish. A really good crank bait for this type of fishing is a Spro Little John in Nasty Shad. This bait has tremendous action and really has a good feel when using a good fluorocarbon line such as 16 pound test Sunline FC Sniper. You want to crank it down until you feel the grass, then slow it down and work it methodically through the grass. Sometimes you may have to rip it free from the grass to draw a reaction strike. The Carolina rig works better on points that have shad present. For the rig, use a 1 1/4 ounce bullet weight and a long leader. Use a 2/0 Gamakatsu Off set Shank hook and a 6″ Big Bite Baits Finesse Worm in Green Pumpkin. Fish it slow through the grass and make sure to use a good sensitive rod to feel for light bites.

LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, CLEAR & LOW 80’S

Bass are shallow and they are biting live and artificial baits in the backs of the major creeks and silver spinner baits and Rat L Traps in bright chrome and baby bass colors are working. Watch for a lot of muddy water flowing into the lake and go to the creeks. Bass are moving super shallow in the creeks as well as on the rip rap on bridges and culverts. Grass and a Texas rigged lizard is hard to beat. Work the rocks on the bridges by slow rolling a Stanley 1/2 ounce spinner baits with willow leaf blades. Bright fire tiger Bomber crank baits can catch these fish. The river bass are on ledges and Bomber Model A crank baits in crawfish and fire tigers are catching these fish. There are plenty of bass shallow in the creeks and these fish are easy to catch. Up the river fish the heavy brush for over the old structure on main lake points. The fish are 4 to 6 feet deep. Add a rattle in any plastic lure and add some Dr. Juice scent. Later in the day use a larger Poe’s 400 bright crank bait on light line.

WEISS LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR AND 79 81 DEGREES BY MARK COLLINS GUIDE SERVICE

Bass fishing is good and most fish have spawned. Some are still being caught shallow and some have moved to deeper structure near the spawning areas. Lizards, Jigs, Creature baits, Spinner Baits, Carolina Rigs and shallow running Crank Baits are catching fish. The Spotted Bass are on rocky banks, shallow humps, shallow road beds and main lake points.

Striper fishing poor and most of the fish have left the main lake making their spring run up the Coosa River.

Crappie fishing is fair and the Crappie have spawned, most fish that have spawned have moved back to deeper water to cover and on the bottom, to recuperate. Spider rigging with live minnows over cover in 8 to 12 feet of water is producing some good fishing.

Now available for sale, 50 proven GPS waypoints by Guide Mark Collins for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. Price is $99.00 for 50 waypoints, (waypoints are not refundable) Contact Ken Sturdivant at ken@southernfising.com

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, STAINE UP THE RIVERS LIGHT STAIN ON MAIN LAKE RICHLAND CREEK CLEAR, 79 83 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair. Start your day with a buzz bait fished along sea walls and rip rap. Work the middle of the coves and main lake creeks. After the sun gets up switch to boat docks in the same areas. Use a shaky head under the docks and around the dock poles. You can also use a small shallow running crank bait around the same docks. As the day heats up move to the bridge rip raps when Georgia Power starts pulling water. Use a white/chartreuse spinner bait or a small crank bait and fish the down lake side with these two bait. Keep an eye on the water movement while fishing, if you see current movement then go the bridges.

Striper report by Captain Mark Smith, Reel Time guide service. Call 404 803 0741

Striper fishing is good. Most of the fish have move to the humps and points from mid lake to the dam. We are still catching some fish on live shad fished on down lines on the humps and points. Most of the fish are coming on the umbrella rig. The umbrella rig bite has taken off over the past week. We are fishing a 4 arm, 9 jig rig at 3 mph 100 feet behind the boat to target these fish.

Crappie fishing is good. The fish are in the mouths of the creek and large coves. They are suspended above the timber. Long lining just over the fish in 6 to 10 feet of water will draw a strike. If you are fishing muddy water use a dark jig. Stained water use a jig with chartreuse in it. Some fish are starting to stage in the timber and live bait fished into the tree will catch these fish.

LAKE SINCLAIR IS FULL, 82 DEGREES, MUDDY UP RIVER, MAIN LAKE STAINED, BY MATT HENRY, CALL 770 361 4210 (cell) or 478 451 0167 (SINCLAIR MARINA)

Bass fishing is great on Lake Sinclair. Everyone seems to be catching fish right now all over the lake. The shallow bite is still the dominant pattern right now. The bream are still bedding in the pockets and the mayflies are just starting to hatch in the rivers causing the bass to stay up shallow. Top water baits such as a black buzz bait and the Spro Bronzeye frog are catching fish consistently around grass, lay down trees, and sea walls around points and channel swings. Texas rigged soft plastics and shaky heads will also catch fish around the docks in these same areas. A Buckeye Lures spot remover with a Zoom trick worm is hard to beat under these docks. For those that prefer to fish deep, there is a decent offshore bite going on as well in 14 18ft of water. Look for offshore humps and long points in the mouths of creeks and near the river channels for the best results. A cell mate colored Spro Little John DD and Buckeye Football Mop jig fished on these offshore spots will catch fish right now and for weeks to come. Look for hard bottom or stumps when fishing offshore. This bite is best when Georgia Power is moving water. Give us a call to book your guide trip today so you don’t miss out on the fun. Make sure to stop by our new boat showroom and see our 2014 and 2015 inventory of new Tracker, Sun Tracker, Nitro, Tahoe, Regency and Mako boats. JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 1.3 FEET, UPPER 70’S AND CLEAR

Bass fishing is good and there are a lot of spawning shad around the man made rock piles and the bass are right in there with them. Any wind blown point can also produce a few fish using the Lucky Craft Flashminnow 110 and Pointer 100’s. Once the sun gets up the fishing gets a little trickier. Fish are already seeking thermal refuges such as shaded banks, deeper water and the backs of creeks. Be ready to adjust quickly once the sun gets up by fishing deeper water in the 10 15 foot range. The hump bite in the main lake is starting to turn on strong as well. Best deep baits for fishing deeper are a small 1/4 ounce standup Bass Stalker jigs and spot stickers tipped with a finesse worm. Also, the drop shot bite is producing a few fish. The largemouth are still roaming in the pockets and creeks and they are after any small popping bait or a small Zara Spook in shad patterns. Top water lures line the Devils Horse will catch some good largemouth as well as the Senko green pumpkin worm rigged weightless.
