LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 1.8 FEET, CLEAR & MID 80’S

This Lake Lanier Bass report is from Jimbo Mathley. www.jimboonlanier.com 770 542 7764

Spotted bass fishing has improved this week with the cooler weather. The top water bite has made a resurgence, which is always great to see. We still have been starting most mornings working schooling fish that are roaming in 5 to 40 feet of water near points and humps. Top water such as a Chug Bug and a Gun Fish have worked, as well as a SuperSpin thrown into the blow ups. After the first hour, we switch to focusing on the brush in 20 30 feet of water with a drop shot, Chattahoochee Jig or Davis Shaky Head. We are targeting brush in that depth range on main lake points and humps, as well as in the mouths of the major creeks. We have found some shallower fish on rocky points some days, and these fish seem to fall for a Shaky Head or Jig quickly. Here is what I have open for trips in July: 15, 16, 20, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29 and 30 (AM). Call to book your July trip now before they fill up, and don’t forget to register for the August 15 Seminar! I expect the top water, drop shot, jig, and SuperSpin to be the main techniques for July. Thanks to all and tight lines!

We are excited to announce our next seminar has been set. Saturday, August 15, 2015 will be the next installment in the Jimbo Seminar Series. The last one was very well attended as we maxed out space with over 100 people, so we have found a larger venue to host the next event. We will focus on techniques for Fall and Early Winter Fishing on Lanier, and will cover key topics such as: Brush Fishing, Top water and Swimbaits, Deepwater Dropshot, SuperSpin in the ditches, Effective Use of Crankbaits in the Fall, Spoon Fishing, Early Winter Jig Fishing, along with Lure and Tackle choices with examples for every technique. We will have more vendors as well as some great door prizes and raffles. Refreshments will be served. Seminar will start at 8:30 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM. Doors open at 7:30 AM and we will have a mid morning break. Also, for those interested and to make sure everyone’s questions get answered, I will host a special post seminar round table from 12:45 PM 1:30 PM for anyone that wants to stay afterwards. The event will be held at Grace Chapel here in Cumming, which is conveniently located off Exit 13 from GA 400 at 6755 Majors Road. Call me direct or email me to register. 770 542 7764 or jim@laniermapped.com. Cost is $89 if you register and pay by August 1, 2015, or $115 at the door. Can’t wait to see you all there for what promises to be another outstanding event that is sure to get you prepared for the awesome fall fishing on Lanier!

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishon .com

Striper fishing remains very good. The fish have moved out over deeper water. Target a depth of 40 to 70 feet. They can be found off points, in pockets and on humps from Browns Bridge to the Dam. They are NOT off every point, in every pocket or hump, which means you have to work to locate these fast moving fish. When you find the fish drop your down rods to a couple of feet above the fish. If you are not getting bit adjust your depth to below the fish and within a foot off the bottom if the conditions permit. We are buying 7 dozen Blueback Herring every day and changing baits every 5 to 10 minutes. This may sound like an overkill but fresh lively bait is critical. Also now is the time to change our leader to 12 pound test fluorocarbon; it will make a difference. You may be able to pick up a small fish or two on a free line early but for all practical purposes downlines is your best bet. The Umbrella rig bite is working but you have got to get your rigs down to 25 feet. There are smaller Stripers Lake wide from Wahoo Creek to the Dam as they are not as sensitive to the warm water as the larger fish. The larger Stripers are moving out of the creeks and the North end of the lake into their cold water refuge on the South end of the Lake. Two Mile Creek, Six Mile Creek, Flowery Branch, Big Creek and main lake points from Browns Bridge are all good places to start. The water temperature is in mid 80’s. The water is clear lake wide. The lake is 1.5 feet below full pool. To book your guide trip call us at 404 561 2564 or contact us on our web site. www.bigfishonguide.com

WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

Bass fishing has been slow. Fishing has been slow with the higher temperatures. Most fish are coming from deep water road beds and humps, when current is present. Use Carolina rigs and shaky heads worked slowly. When generation is at its strongest and bait is present use deep diving crank baits in shad patterns. The best colors have been watermelon and green pumpkin when using a Carolina rig and deep crank baits in a shad pattern. There is an early morning top water bite on schooling fish before the sun tops the trees on schooling fish. For these fish use popping cork and fly. The best locations for these schooling fish have been on the southern end of the lake, south of Wehadkee creek.

LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, STAINED & 80’S BY MATT DRIVER

The Bass Fishing report is from Matt Driver, www.proanglerradio.com

Bass fishing is good but the bite is feast or famine. Most fish are deeper and the best concentration is around 15ft deep. Drop shot finesse worms like the green pumpkin shaky squirrel and 6lb sunline sniper fished vertically using sonar is the ticket. The green pumpkin 2k Dock Monkey or Kacys Custom blue gill fire jig fished in mid depth brush around the stamp creek are is also working good. There has been some schooling activity in the evening especially after a rain. The Spro dawg and BB jerk minnow… It takes a long cast to get the bass to bite and not spook. We use 10 pound test Sunline SX1 braid and a 7’6 med heavy spinning rod for optimal distance. Don’t try to get the boat to close that will be gone.

This Lake Allatoona Fishing s Report has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Service, 770 827 6282. www.firstbite service.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@att.net

Line side fishing is outstanding. Our boats have been on a roll all summer. Our advantage on most half day trips has been twenty five to fifty fish. On some days we will go through a 100 plus baits in less than three hours. Down lining shad is still the ticket to catching big numbers. Down lines fished in the mouth of any creek, creek channel or river channel will get you bit. The water temperature is rising and the dissolved oxygen levels are falling. Bait isn’t living very long on a hook fished deeper than 24 feet. So, make sure you carry plenty of bait with you. And be sure to change them often. The better bite is at and around dam south to Clark Creek. This is pretty normal for the summertime. Trolling is good. The umbrella rig bite is finally getting good. We are starting to see multiple hook ups on our trips. We are fishing these rigs 120 to 150 feet behind the boat at speeds of 2.4 to 3.3 MPH. The rig bite should be on fire by the end of next week. Our boats are catching very good numbers right now on our half day trips. Fishing just doesn’t get any better than it is right now. Give us a call and book your family outing today 770 827 6282.

LAKE HARTWELL IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

Bass fishing is fair and some fish are still hitting on top first thing in the morning. Most fish continue to be located along main river banks and a short distance inside the mouth of coves. Most any top water lure can work, but Pop R’s, Chug Bugs, and buzz baits have all scored well recently. A few fish are hitting spinner baits, mainly around blow downs and grass. A weightless Zoom Trick worm in white could also draw a couple bites from the same cover. Docks and brush piles are still holding a few bass that are hitting mostly soft plastics. Depths are varying from about 5 to 12 feet deep. Try a Zoom U tale worm with a 3/16 ounce weight rigged Texas style. Rip rap is still producing bass, especially during power generation. Crank baits like a Rapala DT10 and Fat Free Shad #6 have been the primary baits of choice. Fish these baits along the rip rap and along the bridge supports. Bass are holding around points, humps, and ledges along the main river and creek runs. Depths are mostly from about 8 to 20 feet deep. A Carolina rig has been the best during the last few days. Crank baits will work best mainly during current flows. Try the Fat Free Shad #7, Mann’s 20 Plus, and Norman DD22’s. Most any chartreuse combination should work.

LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

Bass fishing is fair to good. There are scattered fish being caught all over the lake. The pattern of one day being excellent and then the next being only fair continues. This on and off pattern will continue. The top water bite is fair from safe light until shortly after sunrise. You will need to take a variety of Storm Chug Bugs and Pop R’s to entice the bite. Some small schooling bait fish are still rising in shallow waters and off the points early in the mornings. Make sure to have a top water bait rigged and ready to cast when you spot the bait fish. Bass are a little more active up in the rivers than they are on the main lake. Current is the key factor here. Bass will be a bit more active here. Slow crank a Rapala DT6 or Bandit in a crawfish pattern and keep your boat moving. Also try a the Zoom pearl Super Fluke and work it fast on the surface early and late around the wood and other isolated cover.

CLARKS HILL IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’s

Bass fishing is fair and the water temperature is still in the 80’s and the bass have responded to the warmer water. Start the mornings off the same as last week with Chug Bugs and Skitter Props in the shallow waters. The black bass and the spots are most active during the morning period. Look for the larger bass to bite early in the mornings with these two top water baits and increase the speed of the retrieve on any missed bites or short strikes. Continue fishing the rocky points again this week. These are still good fishing places to locate any feeding bass with crank baits and top water baits. The Fat Free Shad, the Shad Raps and the Ito Vision 110 are working. Have the bigger baits ready during the mid morning. Look under docks, stumps, trees and brush piles with plastics and jigs. Continue to expect pop up showers anytime during the day. Showers and thunderstorms are common, especially during the late afternoon hours. Some of these storms are severe.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN 1 FOOT, SLIGHT STAIN & LOW 80’S BY MATT BATY

Bass fishing is good. The weather is on fire, and so is the bass fishing on Seminole right now. A local tournament was won with more than 30 pounds, and second place was also 30 pounds. The bass now have high metabolisms with the summer heat and are feeding heavily on bream and shad. The Hydrilla is topping out all over the lake, and the bass are using it to ambush bream and shad at or near the surface, so top water is a good technique to use. A buzzing frog reeled across the surface is a good way to draw explosive strikes from bass on Seminole. Having the right setup is important. Use a Big Bite Baits Buzzing Warmouth in green bluegill to imitate bream, and use pearl to imitate shad. Rig these baits on a 5/0 Gamakatsu Superline EWG Hook, a 1/16 pounce. Fish Catchin Fool tungsten weight, and a Fish Catchin Fool Bobber Stopper. Use 50 lb. Sunline FX2 Braid in the new blue/green color, a Lews 8:3:1 LFS Series Speed Spool, and a 7’4 Duckett Terex heavy action rod. This setup is just about perfect for fishing this technique and hauling the big bass out of the thick grass. This technique can work all day long under any conditions. Another presentation that works well is to fish a hollow body frog such as a Spro Bronzeye Popper. Use albino to imitate shad, and use natural green to imitate bluegill. You can use the same rod/reel/line setup as the swimming frog. These two techniques catch quality bass and get really explosive strikes. If you’re using this technique and having no success, you can always Texas rig the edges of grass lines that are close to the river channel and catch quantity. Expect this technique to work all the way through the dog days of summer.

LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, CLEAR & HIGH 80’S

Bass fishing is fair as the fish seem to be buried up in the shallow grass. Getting to some better fish can be a problem at times though. The early morning top water bite continues to be the strongest pattern on the lake, with several good reports coming in this week. Mid morning go to flipping jigs through the grass. The ledge bite has slowed down as the high water scatters the fish out. Shallow brush piles were still producing some fish later in the day, hitting Texas rigs worked slowly around the limbs. Like ledge fishing, finding the right stretch of grass that’s holding a bigger school of fish seems to be the key. The shallow bite will continue to be strong as long as the lake remains close to full. Top water early and flipping jigs as the sun rises are the two most reliable patterns

WEISS LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR, 85 DEGREES

From: Mark Collins Service www.markcollins service.com 256 779 3387

Bass fishing is good and very few are still being caught shallow, most have moved to deeper structure, brush piles and river channel ledges. Jigs, Spinner Baits, Carolina Rigs and deep running Crank Baits are catching fish. Flipping docks with jigs and worms is producing some good fish also. The Spotted Bass are on rocky banks, shallow humps, shallow road beds and main lake points.

Striper fishing is good and they are being caught in the main lake on the old river channel ledges and in Little River and the lower Chattooga River, on live Shad down lined 8-12 feet and on flat lines.

Crappie fishing is fair. These fish have moved back to deeper water to cover and on the bottom. Spider rigging with live minnows over cover in 12 to 16 feet of water is producing some fair fishing. Night fishing under lights and on docks is starting to produce some Crappie.

Now available for sale, 50 proven GPS waypoints by Mark Collins for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. Price is $99.00 for 50 waypoints, (waypoints are not refundable) Contact Ken Sturdivant at ken@southernfishing.com

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, STAINED UP THE RIVERS LIGHT STAIN ON MAIN LAKE RICHLAND CREEK CLEAR,85 90 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair. Start on boat docks in water from 5 feet to 10 feet deep and work a shaky head under these docks. The mid lake area of the lake has been the most productive over the past week. If Georgia Power starts pulling water move to the bridge rip raps with a crank bait or spinner bait and work the down lake side of the bridge. Some fish are starting to show up on the humps on the south end of the lake and in Richland Creek. A Carolina rig worm fished on these humps will draw a strike. You can also use a large crank bait and work the down lake side of the humps.

Striper report by Captain Mark Smith, Reel Time service. Call 404 803 0741 reeltime@bellsouth.net

Striper fishing is good. There is a good top water bite for the first two hours of day light. Use a popping cork or an inline spinner. When the top water stops use your umbrella rigs on the main lake points and humps to pick up the larger fish.

Crappie fishing is good. The fish are in the mouths of the creek and large coves. They have moved into the timber and you can find them with your Lowrance in the top of the trees. When you find them drop a live minnow into the school and start catching.

Make sure you stop by Sugar Creek Marina and pick up your spoons and all your tackle needs. You can also book your Crappie and striper trips with Reel Time Guide Service at 404 803 0741 or reeltime@bellsouth.net

LAKE SINCLAIR IS FULL, 91 DEGREES, STAINED UP RIVER, MAIN LAKE CLEAR, BY MATT HENRY, CALL 478 451 0167 ext 1215 (SINCLAIR MARINA)

Bass fishing is fair. Mayflies are starting to show up all over the lake more and more frequently. Look for the shallow bite to get better over the next month as we should see new mayfly hatches every few days. Top water, jigs, and square bill crank baits are the baits of choice when fishing around the mayflies. Early and late each day, throw a popper or a prop bait around sea walls, lay down trees, and overhangs that have flies present. Bream imitating colors will get the most bites. When the top water bite slows, try a Spro Fat John square bill crank bait around these same areas. Fishing the crank bait parallel to the sea wall will produce more bites as your bait will stay in the strike zone the entire way back. If you find a stretch of bank that is holding a good many fish, turn around and fish it again with a Buckeye Lures mop jig in a brown and orange color. Fish these jigs slowly underneath dock walk ways, at the base of sea walls, and in any wood cover you can find. This is a great way to catch a big fish. Concentrate your efforts on main river stretches for best results. There are still a good many fish deep as well. Most of the deep fish have been 18 to 23 feet deep over the past week. Deep diving crank baits, Carolina rigged soft plastics, and drop shot rigs have all been productive on these deep water off shore structures. Deep humps, long points, and river ledges will all hold fish this time of year. The deep bite is better when Georgia Power is moving water. Give me a call to reserve your trip today. JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 1.9 FEET, 80’S & CLEAR

Bass fishing is barely fair and it really hot all day. There is a fair top water bite early each day and then its docks, docks. The Lunker Lure all white buzz bait or Bang A Lures in silver and black back on banks and wood has been working. Cast to the shallow banks with a Rattlin’ Rouge in the shad or bream color. Small Fat Free shad and pearl white shallow crank baits are fair. For worm fishing use a red shad and black shad Culprit u tail on a spinning rod and skip them under the docks and get the baits a little deeper and work them very slowly. Super Flukes are also fair in pearl. Pop R’s in shad and bream colors are fair. There have been some May fly hatches and if you see them, use a Rapala or a jig in black and brown.
