LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 4.3 FEET, CLEAR & HIGH 80’S

Spotted bass fishing is fair. We are still getting some top water action both in the mornings, as well as in the afternoon over deeper brush when the sun is up, but this bite has certainly declined. We continue to start most mornings working schooling fish that are roaming in 20 to 60 feet of water near points and humps. Top water such as a chug bug and Gun Fish have worked, as well as a SuperSpin thrown into the blow ups. This bite is very random. You just need to be in the right area and throw at the blow ups quickly. If the hard baits don’t work, try a fluke and work it fast. After the first hour, we switch to focusing on the brush in 25 40 feet of water with a drop shot. I have been using the new Lanier Baits 6″ worm options in Candy, Passion, and Obsession lately and have found them to work very well. The afternoon bite has been much better lately than in the morning. If you can stand the heat get out there and work the areas around the deeper brush on deeper humps and you will have success. Don’t forget the top water in the afternoon either, there are still some opportunities out there. I have dates open in August in September, and September is filling up quickly!! Here is what I have open for the next couple weeks of August: 12, 17, 18, 19, and 21. Call to book your August or September trip NOW and don’t forget to register for the August 15 Seminar ASAP! Now is a great time to learn the deep drop shot, and in September the top water and swimbait bite should be in full force! Thanks to all and tight lines!

REMINDER: LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER! LANIER FISHING SEMINAR: Saturday, August 15, 2015 We will focus on techniques for Fall and Early Winter Fishing on Lanier, and will cover key topics such as: Brush “The Southern Fishing Report” By Ken Sturdivant

This Striper fishing report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishon .com

Striper fishing is very good. We saw ninety degree surface water temperature this week. The Stripers are getting very stressed from being hauled up through this hot water layer. Eighty plus degree water to a striper is like poison. They cannot tolerate this warm water and need to get back down below the thermocline as quickly as possible. When you catch a Striper in the summer get him to the boat and released as quickly as possible. Do not take him out of the water or use a net. Take the hook out with the fish in the water and pick him up and torpedo him head first back into the water. Do not try to revive him by sloshing him around in the hot surface water; you are only adding to the stress. Please refrain from taking pictures. Most of you have a lot of pictures of Stripers and you probably don’t need another Striper picture. Do not lay the fish on a hot dry deck of the boat to measure him. If you must measure the fish lay him down on a wet towel. Likewise if you must take a picture have the camera ready before you boat the fish and get him back as soon as possible. The faster we get the fish released and down into the cold water the better our chances are of catching him again; hopefully years from now! Like last week, the fish are in deeper water in the creek mouths and off the river channel. Six Mile Creek, Four Mile Creek, Flowery Branch, Orr Creek and main lake deep water pockets are all good places to start your search. Down rods with 2 ounce weights and 6 to 8 foot of 12 pound test fluorocarbon leaders is your best approach. Umbrella rigs and Lead core trolling is also working. Set the Umbrella rigs 120 to 140 feet back and troll at a speed of 2.8 to 3.4 MPH. Set the Lead core line at 7 to 8 colors and a speed of 2.8 to 3.5 MPH. The water temperature is in mid to high 80’s. The water is stained in the backs of the creeks and clear on the main lake. The lake is 3.5 feet below full pool. WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 2.4 FEET, CLEAR & LOW 90’S

Bass fishing is slow. Up lake the water is slightly stained and fish are holding in 12 to 15 feet of water. Use a Shakey head rigged with a Netbait T Mac in the Bama Bug color. Fish around deep blow downs on the main river and also target rock piles with bait suspended around them. Deep crank baits work and a Bill Norman DD 22 or the Lucky Craft D 20 crank baits are good choices. There also has been a good morning top water bite on a Rico or Pop R but the fish have been blowing up and missing the bait. Try a stinger hook

LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, STAINED & LOW 90’S BY MATT DRIVER www.5x3nation.com

Bass fishing is hit or miss to say the least. Some of the tournaments have been proving there are good fish to be caught right now but many in the event are not catching very much. The brush pile and deep rock bite is the best option. The Kacys Kustom blue gill fire and Kustom kicker red zone in brown are my go to’s in the jig department. Slow slow slow. The other option that is working at night is the Spro Little John DD in cell mate. This bite is very spot specific. You have to hit the depth of 18 to 20 feet. The drop shot bite is still good but the size is down from previous weeks. The big bite jointed jerk minnow is still the ticket.

This striper and hybrid report fishing report has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Guide Service, 770 827 6282. www.firstbiteguideservice.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@att.net

Line side fishing is good. The full moon phase we had last week really slowed the bite. It is starting to rebound, hopefully it will be back to normal by this weekend. These fish are scatter in the water column from anywhere from 13 feet to 40 feet deep. Between Bartow Carver and Clarks Creek. Shad, shiners and bream are all working. But Thread fins and Gizzard shad are hard to beat. Make sure you catch your bream on hook and line. And be sure to carry plenty of bait and change it often. Frisky bait is the key to putting more fish in the boat. Trolling is working very well. For me there is nothing better than the umbrella rig. We have had some really good day here lately pulling these rigs. Also single buck tails fished a 150 feet behind the boat at 2.4 miles an hour will get you bit. Top water is good early in the morning and late in the afternoon. And a white rooster tail is hard to beat. It is working well on hybrids, stripers and schooling spots.

LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 3.7 FEET, CLEAR & HIGH 80’S

Bass fishing is fair. The early morning bite until about 10:00 a.m. is fair. The rock ledge’s where the channel comes in really tight is a favorite and very productive place of mine to fish during the summer months. These areas hold a little bit cooler water and plenty of places for bass to hide along with good amounts of oxygen. A 1/8 ounce or 1/4 Terminator Finesse Jig with a twin trailer or a six inch Finesse worm will do the trick here. You can also use a very short Carolina rig with no more than ten pound test line and a very light weight. The bigger the rock and steeper the bank, the better the fishing will be. Vertical jigging bridge pylons is another good hot weather technique to use. Be sure to down size the spoons and the ½ ounce Flex It spoon is a good size.

LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR & HIGH 80’S

Bass fishing is fair. The fish are shallow for two hours at daylight and a little longer if there is an overcast morning. Small bass are caught up in the shallows using DT6’s and Number Five RS Shad Raps. Cast these baits on the sides of the main lake points in close. Use a slow retrieve and even try stopping the bait for a two or three count once in a while. The better the structure on the sides of these points with rock or wood, the better your chances are. The Ito 110 jerk baits in shad patterns can also be slow cranked in these areas. The crank bait bite is usually good until about 9:30 a.m. in the morning and is picking back up around 6:30 p.m. and will last until right before dark. During the heat of the day, get out the light lead head jigs and some trick worms and fish humps and reef markers the rest of the day.

CLARKS HILL IS DOWN 3.8 FEET, CLEAR & HIGH 80’s

Bass fishing is fair. The grass mats are getting thicker and thicker as the summer sun continues to beat down on the lake. The bass are in, and around these mats, especially on the deeper water side. Main lake points and humps that have the bigger mats are holding the bigger bass. There is still an occasional top water bite, but the fish are all small. Carolina rigs with four and six inch finesse worms are working. Try the drop shot rigs in those thick grass mat areas and use a heavy sinker and a green Senko.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN 1 FOOT, SLIGHT STAIN & HIGH 90’S BY MATT BATY

Bass fishing is slow. There have been several days of 100 degree heat, and this has really warmed up the water temps all over the place. Grass lines on the Flint, Hooch and main part of the lake are best early in the morning before the sun rises. A buzzing frog such as a Big Bite Baits Buzzing Warmouth in white works really well. To rig this bait correctly, you need a 5/0 Gamakatsu Superline hook, a 1/16 ounce. Fish Catchin Fool tungsten with bobber stopper, 50 lb. Sunline FX2 Braid, a Lews Tournament MB LFS reel with and 8:3:1 gear ratio and a Duckett Terex 7 foot, 4 inch rod. This combination really allows you to fish this particular bait correctly. A SPRO Bronzeye Popper in albino works well, too, if the fish are not wanting to chase the buzzing Warmouth. You can use the same rod/reel/line combination for the SPRO Popper. Most of the time, especially early in the mornings, the bass will be positioned just on the outside edge of the Hydrilla so throwing way up in the thick stuff is a waste of time. If you fish on a spot for more than 10 minutes without a bite early in the morning, then pick up the trolling motor and run to another nearby grass line. The ones closer to the river channel seem to be best. After the sun comes up, things really get tough then. Usually this time of year you can catch some nice flipping fish in the mats, but lately they seem to be suspended on the outsides of the grass lines. Use your Lowrance electronics to locate the farthest edge of the Hydrilla lines and points, and throw a finesse style bait such as a Big Bite Finesse worm or Trick Stick on a light Texas rig. The lighter line you use, the more bites you will most likely get. As the August heat prevails, look for the frog and flipping bite to pick up in the thick stuff. Guide Aaron Crews, Fishing is a little slow, but if you work at it, good things will come. The bass are beginning to school a little bit. So Spook type lures in shad, bone and baby bass will start to work. On Spring Creek, I tend to use clear Spooks with rattles. As for popping type lures use bass patterns, shad patterns and clear on the creek. For top water plugs with spinners use Baby Torpedoes in bass, or a Devils Horse in silver shiner and Tennessee shad. Try top water early and late light. At night use the black Jitterbugs and black plugs with front and rear spinners. As for worms, Texas rigged Trick Worms in lavender shad or 10 1/2 inch Zoom in red shad or green pumpkin with a rattler. Fish Mann’s 9 and 12 inch worms with a heavy weight in deep water. As for crank baits use the lavender shad and sparkle ghost on the rivers. On the creek use Shad Raps in blueback herring, silver with a black back, gold black back to fish the tress on the edge of the creek channel. Look for trees that are not straight up and down with limbs on them. The frog bite continues. Mayfly hatches and shad schools are occurring.

LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, CLEAR & LOW 90’S

Bass fishing is fair. But the fishing remains tough in the heat of the day. Fish the deep ledges that top out in 18 to 22 feet with lots of standing timber. Most of the fish are suspending in the standing timber. Use the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology and you can see the fish and count them. Use the Texas rig, a 1/2 ounce Florida Gambler weight to peg the sinker on the Texas rigged worm and use green pumpkin or plum colors. When the Corps generates current, fish by cranking on shallower ledges which are generally 8 to 12 feet on top. Use the Rapala DT 10 and Fat Free Shad baits are good deep runners. You can see the feeding times daily with a Data Sport Fish and Game Forecaster at www.moontimes.com.

WEISS LAKE IS FULL POOL AND CLEAR AND 84 86 DEGREES

From: Mark Collins Service www.markcollins service.com 256 779 3387

The New Annual Weiss Lake Fish Habitat Enhancement Program is complete. On July 29th and 30 Alabama Power and The Weiss Lake Improvement Association joined up to complete the project. They have placed 134 new fish attracters in the Little River and Chattooga River arms of the lake, with the plan of working a different area of the lake every year.

Bass fishing is fair and most bass are deep on their summer pattern, Weiss had a big algae bloom over the past few weeks and it has started depleting the oxygen levels in the lake, so most fish are going to be lethargic. Jigs, Carolina rigged plastics, deep running crank baits and big willow leaf spinner baits slow rolled, are catching fish, the top water bite is on early and late also.

Striper fishing is good and they are being caught in the main lake on the old river channel ledges and in Little River and the lower Chattooga River, on live Shad down lined 8 12 feet and on flat lines.

Crappie fishing is fair and they are in deeper water on cover in the flats and the river channel ledges. Spider Rigging with live minnows over cover in 12 to 16 feet of water is producing some fair fishing. Night fishing under lights and on docks is producing some Crappie.

Now available for sale, 50 proven GPS waypoints by Mark Collins for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. Price is $99.00 for 50 waypoints, (waypoints are not refundable) Contact Ken Sturdivant at ken@southernfising.com

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, LIGHT STAIN UP THE RIVERS THE MAIN LAKE, RICHLAND CREEK CLEAR, 88 93 DEGREES

Bass fishing is poor. The mid lake area of the lake has been the most productive over the past week. If Georgia Power starts pulling water move to the bridge rip raps with a crank bait or spinner bait and work the down lake side of the bridge. Fish are on the humps on the south end of the lake and in Richland Creek. A Carolina rig worm fished on these humps will draw a strike. You can also use a large crank bait and work the down lake side of the humps. We are in a summer pattern so start thinking deep. You can also find some fish under deep boat docks. I would target these docks early in the mornings. Shaky heads have been the best producers on these deep docks.

Striper report by Captain Mark Smith, Reel Time guide service. Call 404 803 0741 reeltime@bellsouth.net

Striper fishing is slow. There is a top water bite for the first two hours of day light. Use a popping cork or an inline spinner. Another good choice is a silver or white spoon fished into the schools that are blowing up on the top.

Crappie fishing is good. The fish are in the mouths of the creek and large coves. They have moved into the timber and you can find them with your Lowrance in the top of the trees. When you find them drop a live minnow into the school and start catching.

Make sure you stop by Sugar Creek Marina and pick up your spoons and all your tackle needs. You can also book your Crappie and striper trips with Reel Time Guide Service at 404 803 0741 or reeltime@bellsouth.net

LAKE SINCLAIR IS FULL, 89 DEGREES, STAINED UP RIVER, MAIN LAKE CLEAR

Bass fishing is fair. There are a few fish are still hitting top water baits during early morning the first hour after daybreak. Poppers and prop baits like Pop R’s, Chug Bug’s, and Tiny Torpedo’s have been the best recently. An angler can expect to catch one or two bass on these baits by steadily casting along medium to fast tapering main river banks. About half of these surface feeding fish will weight around 3 pounds and up. Deep water fishing is also getting tougher, with bass using fewer of the more popular “community holes.” But other humps, points, and ledges are still holding respectable numbers of fish. Depths are mostly 15 to 25 feet down the lake, 12 to 18 feet in the central lake, and 5 to 12 feet way up the rivers. As is normal, crank baits and Carolina rigs are the baits of choice. Some good crank baits are Fat Free Shad in ½ & ¾ ounces, Poe’s 300 & 400 and Rapala DT10 and DT14. Chartreuse and shad combinations continue to be good color choices. Zoom Finesse and Trick worms are good choices for the Carolina rig. Green pumpkin and green pumpkin red have been consistently good this summer. Other good choices are June bug, red bug, and cotton candy. Fishing docks and boat houses is still mighty tough. The best chance for success is by using small and lightweight soft plastics fished slowly. Rip rap and bridge supports continue to produce a few fish. Various crank baits have worked at times, but lightweight Texas rigs and jig head and worm rigs have been more consistent.

JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 2.6 FEET, HIGH 80’S & CLEAR

Bass fishing is fair. Top water will target shallow fish in the early morning. Fish the deeper main lake seawalls. If they are not jumping on the top water baits, follow up with a jig on all the cover in the area. They are likely holding on shallow cover, but looking for a different bait. Also look for fish feeding on open water shad during the early morning and in overcast conditions. Expect to find a mix of stripes, spots, and largemouth. Fish shallow on rocky points very early and late in the day. Fish can also be found in the main lake blow downs without fishing particularly deep. Other than that, few quality fish seem to be available in shallow water. While the fishing can be hit and miss, quality fish are being caught out to 15′ and deeper. On the deep structure use the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology and you can count the fish. Fishing for reaction strikes with the crank bait can be a good strategy. Use Shad Raps to take fish from 5 to 8 foot of water. Throw 15’+ diving baits to search for deeper fish. Jigs work well for catching fish in all depth ranges, particularly on wood and other structure targets. Try large worms like the Ole Monster, as well as shaky head rigs with Trick worms.

Our On the Water Schools are Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass, SONAR and we have a Striper school. Learn how to use the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology. Call 770 889 2654 or see the details on our web site for more info and dates.
