LAKE LANIER IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

This Lake Lanier Bass report is from Jimbo Mathley. www.jimboonlanier.com 770 542 7764

Spotted bass fishing is fair.. The quick warm up has them in a bit of a funk, but we expect the cool front we have coming in this weekend to get them fired up again. Top water has slowed considerably, but still there. We have been starting most mornings working schooling fish that are roaming in 5 to 40 feet of water near points and humps. Top water such as a chug bug and Gunfish have worked, as well as a SuperSpin thrown into the blow ups. After the first hour, we switch to focusing on the brush in 20 to 30 feet of water with a drop shot, Chattahoochee Jig or Davis Shaky Head. We are targeting brush in that depth range on main lake points and humps, as well as in the mouths of the major creeks. We have found some shallower fish on rocky points some days, and these fish seem to quickly fall for a Shaky Head or Jig quickly. I am fully booked for June and now booking for July and here is what I have open the first part of the month: 2, 3, 9, 10, 11(am), 14, 15, and 16. Call to book your July trip now before they fill up! I expect the top water, drop shot, and Superspin to be the main techniques for July.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is great. The stripers will complete their migration to their cold water refuge on the southern half of Lake Lanier during the month of July. Unlike freshwater fish, Stripers will spend the summer in deep, dark and cold water. They couldn’t be happier! Consequently, live bait down rod fishing will replace the shallow water techniques we have been using this spring. We use 20 pound main line and a 12 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader from 6 to 8 feet. Attach the leader to the main line with a swivel, bead and 2 ounce egg sinker. We use Gamkatsu Octopus #1 or #1/0 hooks depending on the size of the Herring. The live bait of choice for the month of July is the blueback herring. Stripers love to chase the bait and it is critical that you change your blueback’s often; every 15 to 20 minutes. In addition to live bait, trolling with buck tail jigs on lead core line and umbrella rigs is an effective summer time technique. Lead core line is nothing more than multicolored line that has a core of lead in the middle to give it the weight needed to get your jig deep. The line changes color every 30 feet. We typically run our Lead Core at 7 to 9 colors back which equals 210 to 270 feet back not counting the a 30 to 50 foot fluorocarbon leader. Set your umbrella rigs at 100 to 150 feet back and trolling seep at 2.8 to 3.5 mph. Vary your speed to control your depth. Target areas for July are the creek mouths from Browns Bridge to the Dam. Six mile, Four Mile, Flat, Flowery Branch and Big Creek are good places to start. The lake is one foot below full pool and the water quality is good. To book your Striper fishing trip on Lake Lanier call Big Fish On Guide Service at 404 561 2564 or visit or our web site. www.bigfishonguide.com.

WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

Bass fishing is good. Fish are really spread out in two groups right now. The top water bite is on fire first thing in the morning on points and lay downs. Buzz baits, Spooks, and Pop R’s are producing when cast very close to cover and then slowly worked back to the boat. There are a few May fly’s left going up the river that are producing some better fish early in the day as well. Pitch jigs close to over hanging limbs with bream present. These fish have been highly pressured so work the bait slowly. The strike zone will be in the first five feet of the over hanging limbs. Once the sun is high focus on docks and lay downs near the mouth of pockets with green pumpkin a Z Man floating worm. The Z Man floating worm will stand up on a 1/8 or 3/16 ounce shaky head. The best points and lay downs are from the 109 bridge north going up the river. During generation periods use deep diving crank baits on humps and road beds. You can load the boat quick with some really heavy weights during these periods of generation.

LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, STAINED & 80’S

Bass fishing is slow and most anglers are fishing at night due to the heat. In the evening, you can fish small top water baits such as a Rico or Jackall SK Pop Grande. Be sure to use shad colors. Fish these baits on main lake points or around the shady places on the steep rock walls. As the evening progresses, switch to a big crank bait like a Spro Little John DD or a Norman DD 22. A good color choice is Nasty Shad. Fish this crank bait on the steeper points. The best option for catching fish right now is to fish any brush or cover 15 to 25 feet deep with a 6 inch Robo Worm. Good colors seem to be Red Crawler and Martin’s Madness. You can also cast a Jig in these same areas. Fish a smaller jig such a Bass Patrol or the locally made Spanky’s jig.

This Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Report has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Guide Service, 770 827 6282. www.firstbiteguideservice.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@att.net

Line side fishing is excellent. Down lining shad is still the ticket to catching big numbers. Down lines fished in the mouth of any creek, creek channel or river channel will get you bit. The water temperature is rising and the dissolved oxygen levels are falling. Bait isn’t living very long on a hook fished deeper than 24 feet. So, make sure you carry plenty of bait with you. There are two bites going on. The first one is from the dam to Holiday Marina. The other one is from the mouth of Kellogg’s to Bartow Carver. Trolling is good also. The umbrella rig bite is finally taking off. We are starting to see multiple hook ups on our trips. We are fishing my rigs 120 to 150 feet behind the boat at speeds of 2.4 to 3.3 MPH. The rig bite should be on fire by the end of next week. Our boats are catching very good numbers right now on our half day trips. Fishing just doesn’t get any better than it is right now. LAKE HARTWELL IS FULL, CLEAR & UPPER 80’S

Bass fishing is fair early and then get to the main lake points. Start with the Zoom trick worm in watermelon green or Zoom lizard Carolina rig on rocky points early in the morning focusing on water in the 12 to 20 foot range. Add some Jack’s Juice in garlic and work the mid lake coves slowly on the bottom and then hit as many points as possible before the sun works its way over the trees. After the sun arrives concentrate on shooting or working as many docks as you can that are near deep water. Green pumpkin Zoom finesse worms on a spot stick or a dark jig will get some action. Mid day it is hot and the fish are deep and slow to bite. So wait until late afternoon and then get back to the lake with the points with rocks and wood as the targets. Go to the Zoom u tail worm in green or a Zoom black u tail and work the baits tight on cover.

LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

Bass fishing is fair. Now it is time to head off shore as the fish go to the usual summer pattern. Top water Chug Bugs are still working early off the points and in the mouth of the larger coves. Fish the upper end around Pickens Creek and look for some schooling fish. In the very back of Pickens Creek and at the bridge at Sanders Ferry there are all spots. Use the flukes and the 85 Sammy and anything is shad patterns. Beaver Dam Creek from the mouth to about midway back is still producing nice bass. Early in the morning start off with the top water Chug Bugs and alternate with suspending Shad Raps in the natural shad color. One substitute for the RS shad rap will be the no.5 jointed Shad Rap. Either one is producing but make sure you throw the natural shad color. Work the islands and all the points at the mouth of Beaver Dam and even up the Savannah under the RR Bridge for about a mile. No need to travel any further than a couple of miles from the 72 ramp for some good fishing. Later in the day use the Zoom finesse worms. Rig them on a 3/16 ounce bullet weight Texas rig.

CLARKS HILL IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’s

Bass fishing is fair. Bass are relating to deep water and are coming up to feed during the major feeding times. During the mid day feeding period there is some surface activity. Use the Pop R and the Rico in shad and take an olive green Shad Rap and work it with short jerks all the way back to the boat. Some of these bass will break the surface in twenty to forty feet of water so don’t be afraid to cast off the other side of the boat into deeper water. Locating a long narrow run out point on your map will be a good place to start fishing the first thing in the morning. Also continue to fish those stump rolls in twelve to twenty feet of water with big spinner baits, Rapala DT14, jigs or Carolina rigs. Getting the crank baits down and letting them bounce off any structure will usually trigger a strike.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN 1 FOOT, SLIGHT STAIN & LOW 80’S BY MATT BATY

Bass fishing is good. The weather is on fire, and so is the bass fishing on Seminole right now. A local tournament was won with more than 30 pounds, and second place was also 30 pounds. The bass now have high metabolisms with the summer heat and are feeding heavily on bream and shad. The hydrilla is topping out all over the lake, and the bass are using it to ambush bream and shad at or near the surface, so top water is a good technique to use. A buzzing frog reeled across the surface is a good way to draw explosive strikes from bass on Seminole. Having the right setup is important. Use a Big Bite Baits Buzzing Warmouth in green bluegill to imitate bream, and use pearl to imitate shad. Rig these baits on a 5/0 Gamakatsu Superline EWG Hook, a 1/16 oz. Fish Catchin Fool tungsten weight, and a Fish Catchin Fool Bobber Stopper. Use 50 lb. Sunline FX2 Braid in the new blue/green color, a Lews 8:3:1 LFS Series Speed Spool, and a 7’4 Duckett Terex heavy action rod. This setup is just about perfect for fishing this technique and hauling the big bass out of the thick grass. This technique can work all day long under any conditions. Another presentation that works well is to fish a hollow body frog such as a Spro Bronzeye Popper. Use albino to imitate shad, and use natural green to imitate bluegill. You can use the same rod/reel/line setup as the swimming frog. These two techniques catch quality bass and get really explosive strikes. If you’re using this technique and having no success, you can always Texas rig the edges of grass lines that are close to the river channel and catch quantity. Expect this technique to work all the way through the dog days of summer. Guide Aaron Crews reports, Fishing is a little slow, but if you work at it, good things will come. The bass are beginning to school a little bit, so Spook type lures in shad, bone and baby bass will work. On Spring Creek, we use clear Spooks with rattles. As for popping type lures, we use bass patterns, shad patterns and clear on the creek. Early and late, try top water plugs with spinners. Use a Baby Torpedo in the bass pattern, and a Devils Horse in silver shiner and Tennessee shad. At night, use black Jitterbugs and black plugs with front and rear spinners. As for worms, use Trick Worms in lavender shad, Texas rigged 10 1/2 inch Zoom Ol Monsters in red shad or green pumpkin with a rattler. We also fish Mann’s 9 inch and 12 inch worms with a heavy weight in deep water. As for crankbaits use a lavender shad and sparkle ghost on the rivers. On the creek, we use Shad Raps in blueback herring silver with a black back, gold with a black back to fish the tress on the edge of the creek channel. Look for trees that are not straight up and down with limbs on them. The frog bite continues. Also keep an eye out for mayfly hatches and bass feeding on shad schools. For those who don’t like to fish grass, hydrilla is still emerging due the water being stained longer than usual

LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, CLEAR & HIGH 80’S

Bass fishing is good early and late e but the day fishing is tough. Wear the paint off a Bandit crank bait on the shallow creek ledges. As the mid day the bite, slows find the mid lake humps on the lower end of the lake and use the large spinner baits and Zoom u tails worms in 10 to 12 feet of water. Hit the grass early with white buzz bait and then head to the ledges later in the day. The Sebile Swimmers in the shad patterns will also work and use a slow steady retrieve. If all else fails, get out the Zoom pumpkinseed lizard and work the 4 foot leader with the Carolina Keepers and use a full one ounce sinker.

WEISS LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR, 85 DEGREES

From: Mark Collins Guide Service www.markcollinsguideservice.com 256 779 3387

Bass fishing is god. Fish the points as a lot of bass are starting to show up on the old river and creek channel ledges also, look for more to move there in the next few weeks. A Carolina rigged Senko worm in green pumpkin/chartreuse or June bug/chartreuse, is working awesome on these off shore fish. Crank Baits and Spinner Baits and Carolina rigged plastics are all catching these fish. Some fish are being caught flipping deeper docks with a jig or tube.

Striper fishing is good and they are starting to show up in the main lake and the Cave Hole in Little River and in the lower Chattooga River. Live shad down lined 8 10 feet deep and free lined on the old Coosa River and Little River channel ledges and main lake points and humps is the way to catch these summer Stripers.

Crappie fishing is fair and a few fish are being caught during daylight under docks on a 1/24 ounce Jiffy Jig. The fish will be on a night bite for the rest of the summer, so grab a can OFF spray and your lights and come catch some summer time slabs. Some good fish are being caught under lights at night off the deeper docks on live minnows and jigs, also Crappie are being caught at night under lights, in 8 to 14 feet of water on the old river channel ledges in Little River and the old Coosa River channel.

Now available for sale, 50 proven GPS waypoints by Guide Mark Collins for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. Price is $99.00 for 50 waypoints, (waypoints are not refundable) Contact Ken Sturdivant at ken@southernfising.com

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, STAINED UP THE RIVERS LIGHT STAIN ON MAIN LAKE RICHLAND CREEK CLEAR, 87 / 92 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair. A buzz bait fished on the sea walls and rip rap at first light is still a good way to start your day. Next move to the boat docks in water from 5ft. to 10 ft. deep and work a shaky head under these docks. If Georgia Power starts pulling water move to the bridge rip raps with a crank bait or spinner bait and work the down lake side of the bridge. Some fish are starting to show up on the humps on the south end of the lake and in Richland Creek. A Carolina rig worm fished on these humps will draw a strike. You can also use a large crank bait and work the down lake side of the humps.

Striper report by Captain Mark Smith, Reel Time guide service. Call 404 803 0741 reeltime@bellsouth.net

Striper fishing is good. There is a good top water bite for the first two hours of day light. Use a popping cork or an inline spinner. When the top water stops use your umbrella rigs on the main lake points and humps to pick up the larger fish.

Crappie fishing is good. The fish are in the mouths of the creek and large coves. They have moved into the timber and you can find them with your Lowrance in the top of the trees. When you find them drop a live minnow into the school and start catching.

Make sure you stop by Sugar Creek Marina and pick up your spoons and all your tackle needs. You can also book your Crappie and striper trips with Reel Time Guide Service at 404 803 0741 or reeltime@bellsouth.net

Bass fishing is fair. The warm weather and increased boat traffic from the holiday weekend made things a little tough. The best pattern right now is fishing deeper docks, brush piles, and offshore structure. Focus on water depths of 14 to 18 feet each day to be most successful. A Buckeye spot remover shaky head with a black Zoom trick worm has worked really well this week. Skip this shaky head under the docks or drag it slowly through deep brush piles. Long points or brush covered humps that drop in the river channel have been productive as well. A Spro Little John DD crankbait and a Buckeye football jig will produce fish on these offshore locations. A top water bait can still produce early and late or when you have low light conditions. This bite can be incredible when the mayflies hatch. A great lure choice for top water would be a buzz bait or a Spro Bronzeye frog. As always on Lake Sinclair, the bite gets better when Georgia Power is generating current.

JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 1.9 FEET, 80’S & CLEAR

Bass fishing is fair. Fish deep structure in or near the main lake or seek cooler water up the rivers. Target main lake points the bluffs any hump at 12 to 15 feet with brush, bridge pilings and docks. Put to use shakey heads, heavy compact jigs and deep running crank baits through the day. Hot weather has many fish hunkered down in deep water, suspended, or roaming with shad in open water. Early in the day, throw a Rico or other top water bait on the deep sea walls or at open water opportunities. We may see more Mayfly hatches resulting in shallow fishing opportunities. Bream move up on the insects and big bass move up on the bream. The hatches are off and on, but the possibility exists that we will see some more hatches. When the hatch concentrates, it is a prime opportunity to catch quality fish in shallow warm water. Many baits may catch them, but top water fishing with a Rico or Pop R can be hard to beat. Also try swimming a green jig. Look up the rivers, late in the afternoon for possible hatches. Good fish can bite at night on the lights.
